During my morning bike ride, I encountered an unusual set of circumstances that gave rise to some thoughts about the current relationship of wild animals and humans. First I noticed a large number of birds in the road that refused to move when I was approaching. I had to swerve to miss some of them. This went for 2-3 miles.

Cycling

Then I came across a deer who jetted out in front of me between miles 3-5. Although I wasn’t close to hitting him, he startled me and made me slow down as I was approaching a hill. Next, I encountered a bunny between miles 5-7 that lunged out in front of me without a care in the world about my well being. If these animals and I are going to share the road, perhaps we could do something similar to what they have at the gym for treadmills:

4AM-4:15AM - Bunny Road Access
4:15AM-4:30AM - Deer Run Access
4:30AM-5:00AM - Bird Access
5:00AM-6:30AM - Human Cyclist Access

If you are a representative of one of these groups and would like to negotiate the terms of sharing the road (which my species built by the way), please do register and comment on this post. Thanks for your consideration.

Please update your Bookmarks, links, and other directory information. I should also note that because of the amount of spam received lately I am making it required to register in order to comment on my blog. Sorry…

Yesterday morning I awoke at 5AM to go photograph a fairly large fundraising event here on Long Island - American Diabetes Association Tour. I got up early so that I could catch some images of the first riders who agreed to go the farthest in the event - 100 miles. Some lessons I learned after I had scouted locations on the route the night before:

1. Plan where you are going to get coffee before the event.
2. Be sure you know where the sun will be at the exact time you plan to shoot at a location.
3. Be sure you’ve thoroughly researched your event. I assumed that the three cycling groups (100 milers, 65 milers, 35 milers) would all take the same course for the first 10 miles. I was incorrect and although got some shots of the leaders, I waited 1 1/2 hours before realizing this fact.

The last 7 days have been the best of my life. For those of you new to my blog, this week Michael and I were married in Niagara on the Lake in Canada. We had 15 of our closest friends and family with us for the three day event. We then all flew back to NY and had a wonderful reception with 70 plus friends and family in Great River. For those interested, I have posted the pics from the wedding itself. We hope to have the wedding reception photos in the next few weeks. We also have these pictures from Debbie and those from Paula and Angela.
Thanks to everyone who made the week so special for us both.

I have been feeling the arrival of life changes heavily over the last several weeks. I know what some of them are - getting married in Canada next week, for instance.

I also sold a small business this past week I have been building over the last 4 years. This will free me up to focus on my ever increasing passion - photography. I have continued working towards completion of my NYIP Photography coursework. I am going to start to market myself and get some good experience.

I also feel a change inside me - like something deep down inside where I am looking at the world with new eyes and feel compelled to make a change, a difference. I know that my time on earth is limited and loving Michael and Zac are two of my priorities that will never change. But I want to take my passion for photography to a place where I can influence our world in a positive way. I know this is such a selfish desire, but my heart yearns for my making a difference.
