Going Paperless

I am hereby committing myself to go as paperless as possible in an effort to be more Green. That means:

1. Will access newspapers and new magazines via my iPhone
2. Keep all my notes via Evernote solution
3. Print only items that require a printed copy (such as expenses report receipts)

4. Request that all bills be electronic where available
5. Request that advertisement mail be discontinued
6. Select to only receive information electronically
7. Turn library into electronic format via eReader on iPhone

Any other thoughts or ideas?

Purchasing Behaviors

I’ve decided to start making a concerted effort to ask myself the following questions whenever I’m considering buying something:

Where did this come from?
How was it made, and by whom?
What impact did the production have on the environment?
What impact did the production have on people who helped grow, make, or were otherwise involved in getting this on the shelf?
What impact will I have on people and the environment when I use this?
How will using this affect me? Will it make my life easier or better in some way? Are there any positive or negative effects on my health?
What will happen to this when I’m done using it? (Is it biodegradable, or will someone else want to use it?)
What kind of company am I supporting if I buy this?
Do I really need this?
If so, are there alternatives that are better for people or the environment?

What questions do you ask yourself when shopping? How has this affected your shopping choices? How has this affected your impact on the environment and other people?

Carbon Footprint

I have been hearing the term Carbon Footprint more and more these days. Even while on vacation in St. Lucia there was a mention of it at the resort we stayed at. I decided to do a Carbon Footprint test online today to see where I stood against the average American and what I can do to decrease my footprint. My footprint is currently 16.608 tonnes of CO2. The average American has a footprint of 20.4. Michael and I have already implemented the use of CFL lightbulbs in our house.

Plant

Here are some other things I can do to offset the carbon emissions I produce each year:

Create a Compost Bin

Donate to Plant Trees in Kenya

Buy more Organic

Eat little to no meat

Don’t purchase items online

Be more of a Green Aware consumer
